Geoff Hodgins Architect was hired by the Town of Perth to create a strategy to develop a 2.3 acre municipally owned brownfield site into a demonstration project for sustainable development. The intention was to show by example that there are alternatives to suburban-type residential development appropriate for small-town Canada. The result will be a mix of passive-solar singles, townhouses and small apartment-style condominiums connected by a shared backyard green space. The project has also partnered with Algonquin College's Advanced Housing Program to build a series of prototypes homes focusing on both environmental performance and affordability. Construction is about 20% complete.
